Plastic: A Global Problem

Key Facts

  • The world produces around 400 million Metric Tons of plastic waste every year.
  • 10 million Tons of plastic per year ends up in the World’s Oceans.
  • China is the world’s largest plastic-producing country with a 32% share of global production.
  • The US (42 Mt) produces more annual plastic waste than any other country.
  • 50 billion plastic water bottles are sold each year in the US.
  • On average, just 18% of plastic is collected for recycling.
  • India (60%) is the country with the best plastic recycling rate.
  • There are currently 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in our oceans.

Plastic Waste in the USA

  • U.S.A. produced 35.68 million tons of plastic waste in year 2018.
  • About 26.97 million tons of plastic waste ended up in landfills in the year 2018.
  • About 3.09 million tons of plastic waste was recycled in 2018
  • About 5.62 million tons of plastic waste was used in combustion with energy recovery in 2018

Wood, Paper & Fiber Waste

  • Construction, demolition, and renovation waste wood (including plywood, OSB, pressed board, etc.)
  • Commercial/industrial waste wood and fibers
  • Textiles and paper (e.g. clothing, carpet, paper cups, coated paper, etc.)
  • Forestry and agricultural waste (e.g. sawdust, flax straw, hemp, etc.)
  • The complementary feedstock material required is also plentiful and often very difficult to recycle due to the quantity produced via waste. Often this is a main contributor to modern landfills.
  • S.A. produced 18.09 million tons of Wood waste in year 2018.
  • About 12.15 million tons of wood waste ended up in landfills in the year 2018.
  • About 3.10 million tons of wood waste was recycled in 2018.
  • About 2.84 million tons of wood waste was used in combustion with energy recovery in 2018.

There are several NGO’s recovering plastic waste from the Oceans, including The Ocean Cleanup and CleanHub. These materials are ideal for the Polyverse process.

Will Global Plastic Waste increase, and by how much?

The total cumulative volume of plastic waste was estimated to be 6.3 billion Metric Tons in 2015.

Forecasts project that this could almost double to 12 Billion by 2050.

Unless we significantly reduce production and increase recycling, the world will have a huge, possibly unsolvable problem.

How Much More Plastic Will The World Require?

Global demand for plastic is projected to increase by 4.1% by 2030, and again by a further 2.4% between 2030 and 2050.

Increased awareness about the plastic pollution problem is still not expected to reduce our consumption.

The Revolutionary Polyverze
Plastic/Wood Waste Process

Chart of recycle types and their uses

What plastics can be used?

The patent pending manufacturing process is unique in that it can use most plastic types – greatly reducing sorting cost normally associated with plastic recycling.

Polyverze is able to use material from all categories. The only limitation is certain types of polystyrene (#6).

The Revolutionary Polyverze Plastic/Wood PolyMass

What will it be used for?

  • The primary and high-volume focus will be on Pallet components. The global pallet market is huge – almost everything that gets shipping is on pallets or wood dunnage.
  • The secondary focus will be on building materials.

Product Case: Composite Pallet Components

  • Heavy load capacity
  • Crack and split resistant (common weakness with traditional wood products)
  • Water and moisture resistant (common weakness with traditional wood products)
  • Provides consistent nail-hold properties with low risk of block splitting.

Advantage of Polyverze Pallets

  • Our pallets can be recycled.
  • Our pallets decrease the pallet industries reliance on wood and helps
    global deforestation efforts.
  • Our pallets help reduce the carbon footprint. This helps their customers achieve their social and environmental commitments.
  • Our pallets can accept nails without splitting.
  • Moisture will not crack, or swell Polyverze pallets.
  • Our pallets will not split or warp with temperature extremes.
  • Can be stored outside without damage due to the weather.
  • More consistent material (25% less waste than softwood) bacteria free and not affected by insects.

Polyverze’s PolyMass Process

  • PolyMass process is a proprietary patent pending technology.
  • The plastic waste is first granulated to 10mm or smaller.
  • It is then washed and dried to ensure moisture levels of < 2%
  • And then heated to specified “pre-melt” temperatures: LDPE = 198℉, PET = 208℉, HDPE= 225℉, PVC, PP, Other = 2900℉.
  • Post-consumer recycled waste wood is chipped to 20-30mm. and granulated to 1-10mm Wood is dried to ensure moisture levels of < 10%.
  • It is then preheated to 132-200℉F
  • Polyester, Nylon and Fiber Glass is fed into Blender along with granulated plastic and wood waste.
  • Desired material consistency and cohesive strength after Oxygen and moisture are extracted.
  • The resulting material is transferred to an industrial hydraulic press to densified to 1300-2200 psi, resulting in a polymass composite material.
  • Polyverze’s post-press shaper and advanced cutting process can be configured to create any size or shape of products.

Advantage of Polyverze (PV) Pallet Components

  • PV pallet components are not susceptible to price fluctuations due to wood shortages, fires, natural disasters, and climate changes.
  • PV pallets components can be recycled.
  • PV pallet components decrease the pallet industry’s reliance on wood and help global deforestation efforts.
  • PV pallet components help reduce carbon footprint.
  • Helps corporations achieve their social and environmental commitments.
  • PV pallet components can accept nails and screws without splitting.
  • Moisture does not crack or swell components.
  • PV pallet components will not split or warp with temperature extremes.
  • Can be stored outside without damage due to the weather.
